Windows 2000 dialup networking configuration walk through.

Windows 2000 DUN Walk Through.

This tutorial describes in detail how to manually set windows 2000 to connect to FrogNet.

  1. Turn on your computer, wait for Windows to finish loading.

  2. Select Start->Settings->Control Panel a new window will appear...

  3. Use the left mouse button to double Click on the icon for Network and Dialup Connections You may have to scroll down to find it. The contents of the Control Panel are listed alphabetically by default. Once you click on the icon, and a new window will appear...

  4. Your icon might be called "Connect to FrogNet" or "My ISP" or something else. It may take a minor amount of deduction on your part, but we're confident you can find the correct icon. Use the right mouse button to click once on the FrogNet icon. A popup menu will appear...

  5. Using your left mouse button, select "Properties" on the dropdown menu. A new window will appear...

  6. Change the phone number See our list of national phone numbers and select the one closest to you. Click on the "Options" tab. You will see the following...

  7. Make sure that the "Display progress while connecting", "Prompt for name and password, certificate, etc.", and "Prompt for phone number" are all checked, and that "Include Windows logon domain" is unmarked. You should connect to FrogNet on your first dialup, so the number and frequency of redial attempts are purely optional. Click on the Security tab.

  8. Under Security options, make certain that "Typical" is marked, and that you are allowing unsecured passwords. Under "logon and scripting", you will not want either checkbox to be marked when making a normal, PPP connection to FrogNet. Click on the "Networking" tab. You will see the following...

  9. The type of dialup server you are dialing is: "Windows 95/98/NT4/2000, Internet", and you will be using the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP).

The other two options do not need to be checked. They are primarily only used if you have your own network at home meaning: you have 2 or more computers hooked up to eachother directily via a LAN. If you don't know what a LAN or network is, you don't have one. If you do not have the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) installed, please do so.

To make sure that your TCP/IP protocol is configured properly, highlight "Internet Protocol TCP/IP" and then click on the "Properties" button. A new window appear

  10. Make sure that there is a black dot next to "Obtain an IP address Automatically" and "Obtain DNS server address automatically. Click OK to close this window and return to the previous screen.

  11. Click the "Sharing" tab. You should see the following.

  12. "Enable Internet Connection Sharing for this connection" should be unchecked. It should only be checked if you are an advanced home user using your computer as a gateway to the internet for your own personal LAN. If that all just read like a bunch of gobbledygook, you should NOT have this option checked.

  13. Click OK to close this window. You should now be back at the "Network and Dialup Connections" window. If you are not, repeat steps 2 and 3 and then return to this step.

  14. Using the right mouse button. Click once on the FrogNet connection icon.
  15. Your icon might be called "Connect to FrogNet" or "My ISP" or something else. It may take a minor amount of deduction on your part, but we're confident you can find the correct icon. Use the right mouse button to click once on the FrogNet icon. A popup menu will appear...

  16. Using your left mouse button, select "Connect" A new window will appear.

  17. Look closely at the username. It should look like an email address. If your username is joefrog, then your username on this screen should look like joefrog@frognet.net if it doesn't add @frognet.net to the username. If you do not know what your frognet username is, look at your last bill. It will be listed as frognet login, account name, or username.

  18. Click on "Dial"

  19. If Windows asks "Make the phone number change permanent?" answer "Yes"

  20. This should connect you with the new settings.
